BOYDTON, Virginia (Reuters) -As a fourth generation farmer, Virginia resident John Boyd Jr typically spends the busy spring season prepping his land to plant sweet corn seeds and soybeans. But Boyd, the president and founder of the National Black Farmers Association, has also been busy fielding inquiries from Black farmers anxious about the impact of President Donald Trump's sweeping tariffs. In several interviews, agricultural sociologists, public health and government and governance experts and advocates said the impact of Trump's tariffs could be more acute for Black farmers, given their historical challenges in accessing capital, retaining ownership of their land and the enduring legacy of decades of discrimination and racism.
ABUJA (Reuters) -A Nigerian judge on Wednesday adjourned a tax evasion case against the world's largest crypto exchange until next month after the revenue service asked for permission to serve court documents by email to Binance. Earlier this month, the presiding court adjourned the Binance case to allow the local tax authority to respond to a request by the cryptocurrency exchange to annul an order for court documents to be served on it by email. Nigeria's Federal Inland Revenue Service filed a lawsuit seeking to compel Binance to pay $79.5 billion for economic losses it says were caused by its operations in the country, plus $2 billion in back taxes, according to court documents.

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) -An executive of Mexican telecoms giant America Movil said Wednesday that the company's capital expenditure for 2025 would be $6.7 billion, below the $7.1 billion capex in 2024. "I think the reduction this year will not increase the normal guidance of capex for next year.. I don't know, but we feel we can save some capex for the future," he added. Garcia said the company, which is controlled by the family of Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim, was also monitoring a telecoms law proposal by President Claudia Sheinbaum and offering its views to lawmakers.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -The U.S. Senate was poised on Wednesday to vote on a resolution to block a host of President Donald Trump's tariffs, hours after the federal government reported that the nation's economy contracted for the first time in three years amid the chaos of the president's tariff policies. The measure, introduced by Democratic Senator Ron Wyden as a privileged resolution that requires a vote by the Republican-led chamber, would terminate the national emergency that Trump declared as the basis for 10% global tariffs on U.S. trading partners and higher reciprocal tariffs on China and the European Union.
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa ordered an inquiry Wednesday to establish whether previous governments led by his party intentionally blocked investigations and prosecutions of apartheid-era crimes. The landmark move, which survivors and families of those who were killed have demanded for more than 20 years, will address allegations of “improper influence in delaying or hindering” investigations that have been levelled against post-apartheid governments led by the African National Congress party, Ramaphosa's office said in a statement. The ANC was the organization at the forefront of the battle against the system of white minority rule and led South Africa to democracy when apartheid ended in 1994.
The Trump administration is moving to cancel $1 billion in school mental health grants, saying they reflect the priorities of the previous administration. A gun violence bill signed by Democratic President Joe Biden in 2022 sent $1 billion to the grant programs to help schools hire more psychologists, counselors and other mental health workers. A new notice said an Education Department review of the programs found they violated the purpose of civil rights law, conflicted with the department’s policy of prioritizing merit and fairness, and amounted to an inappropriate use of federal money.
